Dutch studio, Rene Van Zuuk Architekten has created 'De Verbeelding', an art pavilion located in zeewolde, the netherlands. situated within a sculpture park that spans seven kilometers, the gallery is part of an open air exhibition of high-quality sculptural art.
Positioned at the end of the route on a peninsula that flows into a large pond, the building becomes a beacon and organizational center for events, exhibitions and lectures.
Implementing a construction method commonly used for barns in the region, the structure features three hinged volumes that form a twisting roof-scape and elongated form. A series of identical trusses are slightly offset, differing in their relation to the ground to create a subtly unfolding design that is evident on both the inside and the outside.
A glass strip runs around the perimeter of the structure, delicately integrating the building with the land. the corrugated aluminum volume is apparently lifted off of the ground, providing the gallery with an airy character and floating sensation.
Light enters the exhibition spaces through the shifted roof surfaces and a glazed wall that overlooks the large pond and surrounding landscape. inside, ubiquitous reflections of the water hit the ceiling and further immerse the gallery into its environment.
